I can’t believe it’s been three weeks since Lauren and I launched our One New Food campaign! It’s been a long week too with back to school, so long in fact that I almost didn’t try this new dinner. But I had it on the meal plan, and I bought the fresh veggies, so I figured…go big or go home!
OUR ONE NEW FOOD THIS WEEK
This week I introduced not one, but two new foods at dinner; steak and snow peas. It was a delicious stir fry with steak, snow peas, carrots and zucchini, (which I thought they’d love) and a side of jasmine rice topped with dried cranberries.
I’m sorry to report it was not a success. Yes they ate their two bites of snow peas, and the rice with cranberries….but the rest? Uh not so much. They wouldn’t even eat the carrots because of the shape and sauce. And I didn’t push the steak. They each tried a bite and didn’t like the texture.
I’m actually glad I had this challenge to hold me accountable this week, if it wasn’t for this post I may have caved. I am going to try the snow peas again today after school in a fresh fruit and veggie snack. I am confident that if we keep trying…pretty soon picky eating will be a thing of the past…right?! (Trying to throw the positive vibes out into the universe…work with me!)
ONE NEW FOOD PICK OF THE WEEK!
There are a few awesome parents and bloggers out there that have jumped on board the #OneNewFood train, but this week I wanted to showcase Caryn at Pretty Wellness for navigating the endless possibilities of zucchini! Nice persistence mama! Oh and check out her recipe for Kale Chips…if you dare!
Now it’s your turn…will you take the challenge and try #OneNewFood? And keep scrolling…because now it’s time to link up! And keep sharing those photos on social media!

I’m just impressed that your 2 year old will try things. That has been my biggest struggle (besides the tantrums this week). I love that you’re going to try the snow peas again. Good for you!! Persistence will pay off. I hope 😉

me too Lauren! Yes my two year old knows if she doesn’t try the new food no dessert – period.
Jen@JENerallyInformed says
Hey 2 bites of snow peas is a win! my kids like them, but with ranch. I think that kind of undermines the good…..
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
Yes it is Jen!
Yvonne says
I think you did really well with the snow peas! Both my kids looked at one and said no without even tasting. How do you get them to even taste them? x
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
I bribe them. Just kidding…sort of! Basically they have to try it, and if they don’t then they don’t get dessert or screen time that night. It’s their choice. I try not to make a huge deal out of it. Doesn’t always work though!

I’m laughing because this is how it goes in my house too. And I still get so excited.
We had a recent success with broccoli and cheese earlier this month. Made me very happy!
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
Well you are lucky, my kids won’t touch broccoli! At all. Lucky you!
Caryn says
I totally believe in bribing. I’m approach eating veggies and trying new things the same way. My 5-yo needs to eat at least two bites to half of what I serve, then he can be excused from the table (or have dessert.) He actually likes raw snow peas especially the hearty, crunchy ones (organic) from Trader Joe’s. We’re off now to make zucchini muffins. He’s been trying zucchini all week with mixed reviews.
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
Good for you! Can’t wait to hear if he likes the muffins!
Caryn says
He LOVED them. Although, he will eat anything that he thinks looks like cake. I also showed him his photo on your blog and told him he was famous. He had this proud little grin on his face. Thanks for featuring us.

Of course! Thanks for support the #onenewfood movement!
Julie @ Girl on the Move says
I need to try snow peas and even though I don’t have kids I should probably be trying one new food a week myself!
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
Go for it Julie! It’s actually a fun experiment!

I love the idea of “one new food”! Your stir fry looked delicious to me! Just for a bit of reassurance: My son was an extremely picky eater up through his teenage years. As a little kid he only ate a handful of foods. When we traveled, I carried small containers of peanut butter and jelly in my purse! He went off to college and magic happened. He eats almost everything (some things more enthusiastically than others) and has a very healthy, varied diet. 🙂 Keep up the great work, and know that if not now, eventually it will make a difference. 🙂
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
That’s good to hear Wendy…and thanks for reading!
Jennifer | The Deliberate Mom says
2 bites is pretty good! Definitely try it again.
My oldest can’t stand anything in a sauce… which really messes up my plan to do more Crockpot cooking this fall. *sigh*.
Thanks for sharing. This is lovely that you’re doing this.
xoxo

No Sauce? Oh these kids!
