Well we made it. Four days into the school year and we’ve survived the brutally early wake up, the tears (mine not hers), kindergarten uniform policy, figured out folder procedures each night (yellow AND purple), and picked our after school activities. But there’s still one thing I just can’t wrap my head around…
CAR LINE HELL!
This is seriously something that came out of left field and smacked me across the face. Sitting in line on the first day of school for 92 minutes? They say it’s going to get better, but so far at pickup the quickest it’s been is one hour and 15 minutes. That’s over four hours in car line in just three days! I have no idea how parents do this, but we are quickly looking for car pools or private bus options.
So while sitting in a morning car line…I came up with these:
10 Things I’d Rather Be Doing Than Waiting in Car Line!
- Fold Laundry – I mean, it’s the worst chore in the world right?
- Clean My Cat’s Litterbox – No, maybe this one is the worst.
- Change a Poopy Diaper
- Clean Up Vomit – I’ve covered all the gross excrements right?
- Bathe My Cat – He’s not declawed either.
- Burpees – Which I think should be called pukeez by the way.
- Chew Tin Foil – Imagine it, I dare you!
- Watch Another Story on ESPN About Johnny Manziel
- Listen To My Husband Tell Me (for the 100th time) The Proper Way to Load a Dishwasher
- Get a Root Canal
Please parents…school me on this. Will it get better?!

That’s so crazy to me! I hope once they work out the kinks, it’ll be a WAY shorter wait. They need to expand their parking lot so that you can park, get out, and go get your kid in under 10 minutes. (However, I would still look into carpooling. It’s awesome.)
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
I hope so!
Lauren says
I am SO GLAD I am not the only one who gets a dishwasher lesson EVERY TIME I load it!!! So funny!
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
Right Lauren? What are they…Maytag engineers? Deal with how I do it – or do it yourself!
Laura says
John think he’s being helpful and once in a while asks me if I want him to teach me how to load the dishwasher correctly!!!!!
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
ugh! What is it with these guys? It’s like – just do it yourself then!
Ida Arias says
Ha!! The dreaded car pool line. I put my son in after-care just to avoid the line!!! I would definitely look into a private bus that would drop her off. By the way, #8 is hilarious!!
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
After care is a costly solution for us…but something to consider!
Chastity says
The car line is torture! It’s even worse when you’re in hurry. And, I don’t understand why it’s so confusing for some people.
I don’t know if I can take another story about Johnny Manziel. Ugh!
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
I know Chastity – it’s AWFUL! And that’s the point…I’d rather see more of Johnny Football…(puke!)
nicole says
i refuse to sit in the car line. bad things happen there (I’ve seen too many accidents)!!!
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
I know right Nicole? It’s insane! She’s just too little to put in aftercare…it’s such a long day!
Tamara says
hah!! As a cat owner, but not a cat lover, I feel your pain here.
One of the reasons we love our elementary school was because of the five in the city, we were told it’s the only one without a car line problem at all. I’m not sure why but I’ll take it.
Of course I’ll keep you posted on if that’s true or not soon..
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
Can’t wait to hear how she (and you) does!
Herchel Scruggs says
My kindergartner can’t climb into my truck alone so I park and walk a block to pick my children up. I cannot even imagine spending 90 minutes in that line! Last year, my daughter and I would get in line ten minutes after school let out. My son would play with his friends while waiting so it was a win win.
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
You are lucky! It’s not easy…hoping it gets better!
Jen says
HAHA that is terrible!!! I am so so sorry you have to deal with that….my kids bus it, thankfully. If we lived closer I would make ’em walk…and would go with them just because walking is cool. I can’t imagine spending that long in a car line… holy smokes! I betcha once they get their process in order it will not be so bad. Fingers crossed! Download some cool apps! HAHA
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
Right? It’s a no phone zone too….but I wrote that post on my phone.
Crystal & Co says
I am in the mist of a 12 week workout program. Week five to be exact. I looked ahead and #6 is on my list…. DREADING IT!! Might skip it actually.
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
You can do it! Don’t skip it…
Esther says
O my! I can’t imagine sitting spending that much time in the car waiting. I really hope that the line starts moving much faster. My daughter takes the bus and now after reading this I realize how much time that is saving me from sitting in the car waiting.
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
You are lucky! We live too far for a city bus so we would have to pay for private. Fingers crossed it gets easier!
Libby's Library says
This is ludicrous. I would have decided to homeschool after the very first day!
I don’t know what advise to give you..
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
It is difficult – but hoping it gets better!
Carrie says
I’ve been parking every day and picking Jack up outside of school, and we do the same in the AM…it’s way faster than car line! But tomorrow I’ll be coming right from pre-school with Claire, so we may brave car line for the first time tomorrow. So far it’s been nuts and I’ve been too chicken to attempt it!
mommyinsports says
We aren’t allowed to walk up Carrie – sigh! We are in the 3rd week and it’s getting better now with school activities after school. Good luck!
khewitt19-mommyinsports says
They do chess as a special in her school!
